About us
Mainly we work with theatre/drama, art, dance/movement, poetry and music. Apart from these subjects some of our work is project-based, often we receive suggestions from our participants which lead us on.
Performances and productions
We are outgoing in the sense that we give performances and exhibitions, produce film and sell self-manufactured products.
We are often invited to participate within the existing cultural scene but also at other arrangements.
On our own initiative we do performances, art exhibitions and seminars/workshops.
For example: someone suggested that we should write and from this a study circle was born. The result is two fantastic books of poetry. The filmmaking project derives from a similar process.
Who works at Kulturlabbet ?
To be able to work at Kulturlabbet it is important that you are interested in the given subjects. In due time you will find out which subject you want to devote more time to. It is also important to be able to work within a group. It is possible to work full-time or part-time. We offer a study-visit and trainee-weeks.
The different subjects are led by instructors, each one competent within their respective subject.
Director of Kulturlabbet is Lena Mann. Lena is a trained pedagogue and has many years of experience from working with intellectually disabled people.
Important cornerstones
Pedagogy: How to teach and how to learn new things is essential. The different subjects enrich each other, for example: dance and the awareness of body/room enriches the art subject and vice versa.
Artistry: Creativity and Art as means of expression and communication is emphasized.
Professional identity: Participants at the workplace choose to work as art-practitioners.
History
With Sensus as head of responsibilities a two-year project called “the Drama Project” was carried through. The purpose was to offer people with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to work two days a week with drama. Subjects such as art, music, movement and drama were a part of this. After the end of the project many of the participators wanted to continue working on a daily basis. Sensus began co-operating with the City Mission of Gothenburg and after a positive resolution from the Procurement Company of the City of Gothenburg Kulturlabbet was founded in the year 2000 as a full-time workplace.
Our vision
The vision of Kulturlabbet is to inspire and be inspired by culture in all its forms.
